I went to the cardiologist today to address the dizziness issue. My regular cardiologist is retiring so they referred me to a new one in the office. Turns out besides the obvious low blood pressure which I've always had, turns out I'm pretty dehydrated. He suggested I try to drink 2-3 more bottles of water, try sugar free electrolyte drinks if I like them. I do not so I'll stick to water. He said to increase my salt intake and if not better in 2 weeks I can try salt tablets. Dr thinks since I work out pretty hard and eat pretty healthy I may be unintentionally depriving myself of salt and also I may be sweating it out. It's amazing something so simple could wreak such havoc! He was pretty knowledgeable and I liked him.
He talked to me about the importance of weightlifting and how it relates to the heart, especially in older women. He also said balance is important and I should continue to do some cardio as well. He was pleased with 4 days of lifting and 2 cardio days. Or I can do 5 days of lifting, 1 day of full cardio, and sprinkle cardio in before lifting. I will probably do the 2nd suggestion.He reiterated the need to not use bar while doing chest exercises but instead use dumbbells. He is concerned about bar falling on my chest if I lift too heavy. That would be catastrophic for pacemaker.

I wish we could post pics in comments. I use electrolytes sparingly when it’s hot or I know I’m going to sweat it out. These are not too sweet and taste decent in water. Stur electrolyte lemonade water enhancer. I use the liquid, but didn’t realize they have packages now. Amazon.

A lot of the Keto people talk about Pink Himalayan Salt, I know nothing about it 🤪 but might be worth investigating.

I'm glad you like the new cardiologist, that helps alot and he seems really good about supporting your desire to work out (all the time!). It seems really easy to get dehydrated. I know I don't drink nearly enough water

I was at mine today to, gave me same answer,for same problem, as I run on battery, he did add one thing though,I also going to start the pink salt , I have about 5#S I'm getting older :-P

Pink Himalayan salt is barely processed; it retains all of the trace minerals which are completely removed from regular table salt. Regular salt raises my daughter's and my blood pressure but the pink salt doesn't. This fact about it is pretty well known among alternative medicine practitioners. I use it always now with the very rare time I boila pot of potatoes for salad; then I use Morton's table salt.

Diana1234 — water alone is not a good hydrator. You need just a bit of sugar and salt to pull the water into the cell. My sister used to be chronically dehydrated and would not drink an electrolyte drink. In desperation I added a small amount of 7-up or honey to her water and had her drink a 6 ounce can of v-8 a couple times a day. Regular V-8 has LOTS of sodium in it and low sodium v-8 has LOTS of potassium in it. I mixed the two together. Find a hydration recipe that works for your tastes. Internet has lots to offer.

Key players in hydration which people tend to think it’s just water but no… water alone will actually deplete you if you don’t have enough carbs, sodium, Creatine to hold it

I just remember Gatorade and it was so full of sugar but Dr did stress (as did other FS mambers) to get sugar free drinks. 🩷.

Fritzy, Hi! I do like new Dr. He was very thorough and seemed knowledgeable. I will do as he says. I drink a fair amount of water but he said my workouts and the heat here already is dehydrating me quickly. Hope you are doing well!🩷 Do N Ok, Funny how simple it was! I hate the dizziness so I'll do what I need to do. Hope you get better as well! Dizziness is not fun. 🩷

I'm glad to hear this info. I don't work out because of my bad back and a year of Sciatica but I know I don't drink enough water. This encourages me not only to drink more but to buy and add some pink salt. I do have the natural in big crystals that I grind but maybe it's not as good as pink. DO N OKAY says he is getting "older" but still does intermittent fasting. I do it 7 days a week. Between my back and my heart, at 82 I've lost a lot of ground. But I'm still praising the Lord to do my own shopping, cooking, etc.

Diana im so excited for you with this news you received. Totally manageable suggestions from him. When people say they are dizzy or nauseous the first thing i usually think of is dehydration. I know when i start to feel sick it’s usually a hydration issue for me and LV has such hot temps. Good job. Hadn’t thought about using a bar to do chest press for you but i can definitely see where that could be dangerous for you. So easy to forget dealing with physical constraints that are just going to remain regardless of how hard we work. More importantly, did you walk away from that appointment feeling confident and secure in the visit? Sounds like you did. A good dr is not an easy thing to find.

Show white, It is amazing how things affect our bodies. Who knew it would be so simple? Hope you are doing well otherwise 💜 YOH, I feel good about the new Dr and I did google him for reviews etc and he actually had 5.2 stars. I have learned over the years that Vegas has questionable healthcare. He seemed honest and basically told me that our visits would be annually as he deals with the “ plumbing “ part of heart and my issues are electrical. I have a different electro-cardiologist as well who will be my main cardiologist. I will do as Dr said because I do not want the dizziness to return. Katsolo turned me on to some sugar free electrolytes on Amazon and I’m going to try those. Also going to get pink salt. 💜

Third year living in the south and I just had to start drinking electrolyte drinks on a day to day basis! It makes a difference for me

Everyone read up a bit on this whole “pink salt” thing yourself. Unless you are consuming a LOT of salt the amount of minerals retained may be “nutritionally insignificant”. Decide for yourselves

Yea the major factors of those big 3 is carbohydrates. It’s like literally in the name, carbon hydrate- hydration of carbon.

The quick weight gains and losses you see that people complain about that actually tells you of your hydration levels. Which is why fighters will dehydrate themselves 10-15lbs a day before the fight then regulate back 15lbs or so.
