I was motivated to walk today, especially after my trip down memory lane, remembering that daily long walks was a huge part in my weight loss. The step counter will be a big help with this. Before I would walk different streets and routes in my neighborhood in search of easier hills. Then I would go in my car and see how far all my routes were. So I knew what a 2 mile walk was, or 3 or 5 or 7. Today I decided to walk the hill that isn't so hard for me right now and then all the way to the end to the street (about 1 1/2 miles from my house). It's an impossilbe hill from the bottom to come back up. So I turned right and walked a bit until I reached a circle on the left and all the houses on the street are on the lake. I wonder if Bobby remembers that walk. When he was about a year old we did it probably 150 times. Then I had to figure out a way home. I knew all the streets I could take. Started up one and had to stop to catch my breath it was so steep. But then it leveled out and the walk was not bad the rest of the way home. Got home and the walk was about 11,600 steps! Took just over an hour and a half.

I was able to look up my food journals from September 2017 through March 2018 when the weight loss stopped. I wasn't eating much but tried to reach 40 grams of protein every day. The monthly average daily calories ranged from 752 (in January) to 842 (February). I remember thinking that portion control was great because I could have what I wanted, but 1/4 pork chop didn't have much protein. I looked up the Thanksgiving dinner I had at my nieces house and the dinner was 348 calories (estimated) with 2 tablespoons of just about everything and 1/4 cup of the green bean casserole and even 4.5 ounces of red wine. The total for the day was 1089 calories because I did cave in on some of the appetizers.

I try to keep my calories around 1100 or less. I am often way under because I just don't feel like cooking. I am trying to increase my protein, hopefully in a low calorie way. New goal 60 to 75 grams of protein. I cooked 2 hamburgers on the George Foreman grill yesterday. They weighed 6 ounces. The ground beef is from Costco 88% lean. I had one patty yesterday to get in enough protein. 6 ounces is really too much for me. I had half of the other patty this morning on 1/4 bagel. The neighborhood lady who did the Costco run called me and asked if I wanted raspberries. They had a good sale - $2.19 for Driscolls 12 ounce. Those are $7-$9 at my grocery store. I had her get me 2 packs. I don't know if they freeze well so I'll have to eat them fast.

Hope to stay motivated - I didn't ask for a apple pie from Costco! Love them.

I still can't believe my walk was over 11k steps. I also am getting some memories from my days of hiking and long walks that I'm usually done for the day afterwards.

Excellent on the walking! To think that just a few months ago you were struggling. Freezing the raspberries will make them mushy (strawberries don't freeze well, either), so I would definitely snack on them fast 😋

I freeze the Driscoll's raspberries and eat them frozen or half thawed on yogurt or granola or cottage cheese.

Also why so high on the protein? Do you find it helps curb your appetite?

Abba - I've always tried for 40 grams of protein. My hair is thinning and I know protein has something to do with it. There's a calculation for protein needed based on weight online. Multiply your weight in pounds by .36. That works out to 68.4 grams for me so 65-70 as a goal seems right. As I lose weight that number will come down. I've often based things on my "goal" weight but in this case I need protein for my current weight. I love raspberries just the way they are. I used to put them in smoothies. Thanks Liv. I can't believe I walked that much! If I walked 11,000 steps poor Bobby did 22,000 steps since he has 4 feet! He can sleep the rest of the day if her wants. Thanks Bananas. I can't figure out why the first hill was so difficult before and it is now okay. It isn't easy but I don't have to stop at all. Before I would stop 2 or 3 times to catch my breath. That will happen on the steeper hills. I ate half of one container of raspberries yesterday and one today. So hopefully the rest will last 2 more days. I can't believe what a good deal they were at Costco.

Abba - I don't think protein helps curb my appetite. Usually a cup of hot tea helps in the evening.

Wow! What a nice walk! I bet Bobby does remember. They tend to remember a lot. Raspberries are my favorite! Enjoy your weekend!:)

Anytime you get a good deal like that you can always blend them up and put in whatever ice cube trays you have. I have some silicone extra large ice cube trays— perfect for smoothies, ice cream topping g, salad dressing, etc.

Just read a write up on a study about walking and dementia the other day. Summary: walking is really good to keep the neurons firing.

Thanks Navywife! I was so excited to see the numbers on the step counter when I got home. It took me an hour and 35 minutes. I just got in my car and drove to see how far it was. It was 3.7 miles. I always thought it was 5 miles when I walked down to the street by the lake but I knew it would take me 2+ hours to walk 5 miles with all the hills in my neighborhood. If I had gone down to the houses by the lake and back the way I came it would be 5 miles. But there is no way I want to tackle the huge hill that is fun walking down but not up. I hope Bobby is enjoying longer walks! Thanks Kenna - something to think about. Costco is an hour 15 minutes away so I don't go anymore. But it was nice that the neighbor asked me about them. I love raspberries and she didn't even know that. Thanks Kat - I think I heard something similar on the news

Draglist—if you go way low on calories you will not loose weight. Your body is programmed to protect itself. It needs adequate nutrition to function. 1200 is felt to be the safe low end of acceptable unless you are directly under the care of a doctor. Just say’in. I’m sure Fritzy actually knows that

Draglist - are you talking about the calories I listed for Sept 2017 to February 2018? I lost 53 pounds in 7 months and FS still has all the food journals, weigh in's etc. I was new as FS and can tell because I now list most foods a little more accurately. Back then I was still more focussed on protein. The calories were low because I ate 1 or 2 meals a day. Thanks Kenna - for awhile during physical therapy I was not walking much because I'd have calf, thigh and hip pain later. The therapist wanted me start with just a few minutes and add a minute a day as long as it didn't hurt. It hurt after about 15 minutes of walking. Now I am not working about the pain. I know I don't have an injury.

Thanks Morticia - the walk today at over 11k steps was the best thing that happened all day. Plus knowing I can actually take on some of the hills around here and I was able to make it home without calling and asking my sister to pick me up at the bottom of her street!
