Jurnal Debbie Cousins, 20 Mei 21

Day 18 - No weight loss this morning. Not excited about that, but I'm not discouraged, either - which borders on the edge of miraculous. "Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God. How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out." God's got this. The lack of loss could be because I woke up at 4am. It'll all work out in the end.

Pool day was fun yesterday, but exhausting. My five-year-old grandson had forgotten some of what he learned in swim lessons last year, so I had to be at arm's length with my eyes on him for the entire 4-1/2 hours - well, except while they were eating the picnic lunch I prepared for them and my twin friends: bacon, boiled eggs, potato chips, meat sticks, cheese sticks, lemon Oreos, and juice boxes. I chewed 1/4 of a cookie and then spit it out.

The pool temp was 77 when we got in and up to 79 degrees when we got out. Not going in today, and have the solar cover on to absorb the 90 degree weather today. Kid back again tomorrow, 86 and sunny.

My green beans are coming along nicely - lots of runners now! The sticky traps I put out to catch flies, aphids, spiders and suck have gotten almost full of insects again, so I'll need to make some more today.

Hopefully, my husband will feel like cutting the landscape tiles today. I want to get it done before our friends from the community pool come next Friday. It really is a hard job, and gives me some good exercise lugging the 16-lb bricks from where they are stacked, to the tailgate of his truck (which is where we cut them) and then to their respective places around the pool.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday! And, again, thanks for all your kind and encouraging support!

OH, full disclosure - I drank a couple extra sips of Diet Coke yesterday. Overall, though, still sticking with one 12-oz can a day (down from 2-liters).

Today is my son's birthday. He would be 40 today, but he passed on to the Lord over 11 years ago. Your post about your pool reminds me of him. When he was in college we used to have a pool party every year on his birthday. I remember how, even in Louisiana, it was iffy whether the water temp would be high enough for swimming. I have a personal rule, if the temp is 75 or below I'm not going in. But those young people went in no matter what the water temp was! You are very blessed to have time with your grandchildren. They stay small for such a short time. My eldest grandson, and the only one I live very close to (he's 2 hours away), turns 16 this month, and he thinks he's just "too old" to spend time at Nana's house anymore. It's been almost 2 years now since he stayed with me and longer than that for his sister who is 18 now. I really miss having little ones to play with. I know you're really enjoying that right now. I really admire your ability to keep fasting, even while having to feed others. The only time I've succeeded at long term fasting is when I was home alone for several days in a row and didn't have anyone else to feed. I'm praying for your continued success in reaching your goals and thanking God for helping you reach them!

Debbie you know you are playing with fire with the cookie, so I shouldn't even mention it. @DLynneGarner, today is a bitter-sweet day for you. Even with good memories of our sons, it was hard losing them. My son was killed by a drunk driver when he was 21. I don't fast long either, 26 to 30 hours is the longest I have gone. Debbie's fast is amazing.

Thanks, Lynne - I appreciate your encouragement. So sorry to hear about your son! I'm lucky my grandkids are still so young. The five-year-old still likes me to hold him and wants to sit in my lap even if he's doing something else, like playing with a toy or playing on the tablet. I still miss having a BABY around, though. My son is not having children because he and his wife have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and neither of them wants to pass it down to a child. My daughter has two, but I really don't know if she could handle another one. She's in a verbally abusive relationship, and it takes a toll on her. @Snowwhite100, I can always count on you to give me tough love. I "had to" taste the cookie to make sure they were fresh for serving at the pool party. Any that may have slipped down my throat (but I really think I spit it ALL out without swallowing) was not enough to knock me out of ketosis. Thanks, @jimmiepop - you're a real encourager!

@deb You are most welcome. I may not know much, but I DO know excellence when I see it. Your fasting game is top shelf.

DLynneGarner, life is so unfair sometimes. Our family is me, my husband, and my son. My son is 9. The one thing that he wants the most is to have grandparents like his friends. Breaks my heart. My dad passed away from Cancer. My mom is very sick with cancer too. She lives in another country. My mother-in-law passed away when my son was born. His dad married a woman that never had kids and she doesn't like kids either. We barely see him. We joke from time to time, that we would like to be adopted by a sweet grandma and or grandpa... I'm hoping that my son doesn't wait to get married too long and to have kids...He's a good boy and I know he will be a great father one day. (after graduating from college, of course lol)

In the church I used to go to, there was an elderly couple who also had no grandkids. They "adopted" a family and became Grandma and Grandpa - gave them presents for holidays and birthdays, took them out to eat, let them spend the nght - all the things a grandparent would do.

I am an adoptive grandma to a little girl that I met when she was 8. I mentored she and her mom on their weight loss journeys and during the process I became “grandma kenna”. It has been so fun. She is the little gal I refer to as “The General” in DP’s post above. She is 16 now and a marathon runner. She and mom were both huge weight loss successes. Mom lost 175 lb in a year and the little gal lost a huge amount as well. Neither of them regained.

That's so sweet, I didn't know it was a reality out there, adoptive grandparents. Love it. Honestly, we dont need any more material things. As we do okay and my son being an only child he gets spoiled with toys already. It's actually kind of amazing, but I think he doesn't care about things. A hug, a walk in the park, a Christmas card would do it... sorry for highjack your post. I just started my diet. I'm doing a lazy atkins, and counting calories. Fingers crossed. I come here to get ideas for dinners...love everything I see, as I am a foodie to start with.
