I'm posting this today for my friends who are having a difficult time getting back to working out, for whatever reason. Mine is from illness. I started back 2 weeks ago and it's been an up and down experience. I originally started back to gym and classes too soon and it caused a relapse. That was about a month ago. 2 weeks ago I started back again but limited gym time and didn't take classes. I worked out 3xs a week at gym and 2 days at home, taking off on Weds and Sunday. All went well. Slight interruption in workouts while in Calif for 3 days. Started back Monday with body pump, Tues at home workout, Weds, bodypump. After body pump yesterday I felt like I'd been run over by a truck. I was super tired and achy. I was scheduled for training today but cancelled. I'm trying to listen to my body but I'm not known for being patient...I will do a workout at home and hopefully a walk in my neighborhood. It's frustrating that my body is not responding as I'd like. Im going to try to have a bigger gap between classes. Next week will be bodypump on Monday and Thursday. May try pop pilates on Weds to see if I can handle that. So, to those that are battling health issues, my advice is to start back slowly and listen to your body. I just need to learn to take my own advice!

Yes I just got back into it by redownloading Apple Fitness Plus which I had last summer than cancelled after a few months because I went back to walking. I started off very slow just 10 minutes of strength training the day before yesterday and already sore yesterday so I took a break because I was assembling and disassembling stuff in the house and moving stuff around and also went for a walk. You are so right to listen to your body, it knows best. I will continue with 10 minute work outs along with regular walking and increasing when I am up to it.

Sternfan, Yes. It is good to listen to our bodies. Hope you are able to get back to yoga soon! I am sore all over and feeling depleted. I took ibuprofen and was only able to do 1/2 mile walk this morning before asthma kicked in. It's cloudy here today and that bothers my asthma more than wind does.

I agree ☝️ sometimes all we need is a nice stroll in the woods or by a body of water to rejuvenate our spirits 🌞 I love getting outside in the morning when it’s quiet and cooler to get on some vitamin D. D deficiency are a huge concern when dealing with body recomposition.

Christine, I have to go early as I live in desert and it gets to hot to walk later on. I just wish my body would get on the same page as my mind...lol💜

Oh gosh what a journey! I know that we are all different but maybe making sure you get a rest day in between all of your workouts. I workout Monday, Wednesday and Friday only. I enjoy my rest days and need the recovery time for my knees usually! Great post because I think that coming back into a fitness routine after being sick or injured is hard for a lot of people. You are strong and you will get there.

Redporch, Im pretty frustrated! What my mind thinks it can do and what my body can really do are two different things! My trainer called and said shouldn't be taking body pump right now because of the pace of movements is wearing my body down. She said if I really want to do a class do body pump on Monday and maybe pilates on Thurs, taking Weds and Sun off completely. That way I have a rest day before I take a class. I think I'll try that next week. 💜💜

I am trying to add to my exercise right now as well. It's been a struggle to find the combination that works the body but doesn't kick the booty. I truly get your frustration! God grant me patience and I want them Right Now!

I recently went through a severe sickness too. Mine lasted 17 days. The only thing I could do during that time was walk. Then lay down. I walked after each meal. I’m better now, and am back to my dumbbells and HIIT and walking but it was an adjustment to get back in the swing of things. I modified some moves initially w the weights. Glad you are feeling better and getting back in your routine but I’d definitely listen to your body when it needs rest. Getting a wisdom tooth pulled tomorrow so….there goes another at least WEEK of no working out. 😩😒

It’s hard. Like being a beginner/ newbie. And newbies need to go slow and adapt. Muscle memory is real but slow to activate. And asthma is its own animal to work with. Take care of yourself, Diana, and show better sense than I have failed to too many times in the past😞. Rest days are golden, for they are when your body improves!

Yeah listen to your body…. But that can be hard to do. I genuinely can’t figure out what it’s trying to tell me sometimes! 🤪 I’ve also been struggling with some health issues - unknown what it is right now but I keep feeling lightheaded and dizzy. Frustrating.

Fantastic advice! Thank you for posting. I'm sorry you have had such a rough couple of months. It's good that you have built a strong physical foundation of health and fitness that will make recovery better than if you hadn't. I think you are wise to listen to your body, even if it contradicts your mind. 💚. Praying you will have a speedy recovery.
