How do people drink coffee black? I've always wondered how you start to do that. I think I first drank coffee around 15 or 16. My mom and dad both used half and half and sugar and that's how I drank it. Still do. If your first taste of coffee is black, isn't it too bitter. I think if I had had black coffee I never would have tried it again. I am trying to make an effort to put less and less sugar in the coffee to see at what point I can still stand it. The only time I don't need sugar or half and half is if it's coffee and Kahlua.

Many years ago I made a plan to lose the weight I needed to lose. I was in my 40's. I planned for the diet to start on January 1st, don't remember the year, maybe 2000 or 2001. I didn't use a computer much. I remember I made charts on plain paper, pink, blue and green. I wrote dates down one column, the next column was the weight, and then the goal weight for that date and the weekly result and then total lost or gained. I weighed myself every Saturday morning. I started at 169.5 pounds and I got to 129 pounds in less than 6 months. I was wearing a size 16 in jeans when I started. Does anyone remember Spiegal catalogue? As I started to lose weight I ordered a pair of jeans in size 12. When I got them, they looked huge but I couldn't fit them up to my thighs. After 10-12 pounds they fit me. So I ordered the next pair lower, a size 10. I kept doing that until I finally got to size 6. That's the only time that strategy has worked for me. Since them I've bought clothes thinking "this will fit perfect once I lose 10 pounds" and then it never happens. But right now I am motivated and I am thinking of doing something similar. I ordered some jogging pants from Amazon to wear to physical therapy. I really love them so bought a 2nd pair. So nice to wear when it's 105 outside instead of jeans. I'm in the largest pair they sell. I'm thinking of ordering a pair in the capri style in a couple weeks one size lower. That's if I continue to lose. It can be motivating

For me it was easy, first started drinking black coffee during the initial invasion of Iraq. During that time we did have access to cream and sugar so I just did without. I learned to live with it and never went back to creamers or sugars.

My brother uses honey and I have started using half Splenda mixed with sugar. you almost cannot taste the difference. I can't do the honey in coffee. Tea. however, works wonders with my sleep.

When I was 16 and wanted to drink coffee my mom and dad told me fine but you have to drink it black! I’ve kicked sugar so in general I don’t like sweet things but once in a while for a treat I will put “whole Earth sweetener” and a couple drops of hazelnut extract in my coffee…Always with 2% milk. I’d suggest dropping to whole milk from half-and-half first and then adjusting to the 2%. Another idea is to get used to the whole milk and then drink one percent milk in your coffee for a few days. Then when you go to the 2% milk it will taste amazing! That alone will save a ton of calories and fat.

I love my black coffee. My parents drank it black and when I first drank coffee I had creamer in it. If it’s good black coffee you don’t need creamer or sugar. If I can give up creamer and sodas and sugar in tea anyone can.

I cut down on most sugar. I still have berries and such. I never thought I could cut sugar entirely from my coffee, but I gave it a try when I didn't want to use Splenda in it anymore. I found I liked it with just creamer. I don't drink black coffee, but with some cream in it, no sugar, it's delicious to me. I do drink my tea black though. I do not like cream in my tea...unless it's a chai latte. LOL! It's an acquired taste, I guess!

Community Brand French Roast Coffee, dark, rich and smooth not bitter. I drink it with frothed skin milk. So much depends on the variety of the coffee bean, where and how it is grown.

My Dad was dignosed 'borderline diabetic' when he was about 80 years old, but not overweight. The Dr asked him how much coffee and tea he drank per day...2 cups coffee, 4 cups tea. All with 2 tsp sugar plus 2% milk. Dr. said all he needed to do was cut all the sugar (12 tsp.) from the tea & coffee, and if that was too hard, switch to 'splenda'. It worked! He has avoided diabetes by just changing that 1 habit. He is now 94, so the splenda has not shortened his life, but diabetes may have.

Try reducing sugar to 1/2 amount and use skim milk. The bonus of drinking coffee & tea black is that is stays hotter longer.

I just cut out sugar years and years ago. It didn’t taste good at first but my taste buds got use to it, now can’t drink it with sugar. Done the same with milk, but found if you drink a decent coffee it taste better.

When I first started drinking coffee it was milk and sugar. Then moved to milk and sweet n low. After that I tried light blue agave for a short while. Then realized I started gaining too much weight and switched to stevia. Bu now I’m going on at least 2 years of just black coffee. I should have stated at the beginning that I started drinking coffee with my grandfather when I was pretty young. I have a Keurig and have found that donut shop blend and Caribou blend are my favorites

my coffee: good coffee (16 oz) with 1 TBS heavy cream (no carbs) and a half droperful of hazelnut stevia liquid. Very yummy and no effect on glucose.

Thanks everyone for all the coffee ideas! It has to be half and half, not skim milk. One reason I don't like coffee at my sister's house is she only has low fat milk and I'd rather skip the coffee altogether. I have a Keurig coffee make and buy the K cups at the little grocery store in my community. I like the breakfast blend and buy the store brand. Never did get into the whole Starbucks craze. I remember buying pretty sheets and blankets from the Spiegal catalogue and I think I bought a quilt for my bed once. Then I bought the jeans. Don't even know if the catalogue is still out there.

I somehow went from not drinking coffee at all to drinking it black and strong enough to bench press a Buick overnight when I became a ski bum. I mean LITERALLY overnight. No idea how. Good coffee makes all the difference. If you're drinking Folger's or Maxwell House out of the big can, it could be difficult to switch. Although I drink it black at home, when I go to restaurants or conferences I nearly always have to add milk or half and half (can't stomach powdered creamer). I concur that if you can cut just the sugar out, it's a big step. Still, it's definitely an acquired taste ☕

Agave. Raw cane sugar. Sugar free creamer. Stevia in the raw…I cut out Splenda recently but that was once my go-to.

drinking black coffee start ...lots of memories....I drank unsweetened black tea since a teen. then at 30 my late husband got tired of packing two thermoses. 1 for his coffee, 1 for my tea. (we went away almost every weekend). he told me to learn to drink black coffee after all if you do it for a week you will like it. so being the subservient wife at the time, I learned to love the coffee .. black. I've learned to be not so subservient over the years too. slow learner here
