Feel like I’ve hit some kind of plateau and it’s so hard to eat correctly out here on the road. I get my cardio on the weekends at home but wondering how I could incorporate some weight training into trucking five days a week. Anyone have some suggestions for good core exercises for chest, arms, legs? I need to try and trim the inside of this truck into a semi weight room!

Do you need to be inside the cab /sleeper while exercising, or can you be beside your truck? Basic chin-ups, push-ups, and squats hit a lot, if you can manage a chinning bar. Suspension exercisers are very portable, as are elastic bands. I have a Kinzi Resistance Band Set and WOSS Military Strap Trainer from Amazon that are both good quality. Good looking truck!

You are killing it, brother, under challenging circumstances. Keep the faith. Couple thoughts on working out on the road. Have you looked at bodyweight or kettlebell programs? The former are used by special operators while deployed to stay fit. Both can get you ripped and seem road friendly. Feel free to PM for more info if interested. I am pretty sure I have ebooks for both in my library. Also, you may want to check out "barstars" on youtube for a different take on body weight workouts.

My ex used to have a routine which was totally body-weight: situps for 2 minutes, rest 1 minute. Pushups for 2 minutes, rest 1 minute. "stand-ups" for 2, rest 1. A stand-up is you put your arms up over your head, then squat down and bring your arms down to touch the ground, then stand up and put your arms back up. That was his routine every other day for an hour. Walking 2 miles a day is good too.

When you are stepping up into the truck, use hand weights, lift above your head on the step up, to the chest on the second foot. Alternate arms when you get out and in.

I have been in trucking for 36 years now and I feel your pain. Try looking at some of the ideas on YouTube that talk about: Lazy Vegan recipes = easy transportable and tasty too. healthy eating on the road will show you a ton of great ideas to make your own healthy travel menus. Hope this helps.

Wow, mad respect to you. Roommate was trucker and (although he has opposite problem and is too thin) eating healthy and keeping fit on the road is hard!! Can't wait to show him your truck!

tai chi (from my limited understanding) is the act of slow movement while keeping all .muscles tensed. You could invent your own isometric ish routine while you are driving, if you're doing it right you will break a sweat and b sore later.

If you have a cell phone type in core exercises. Maybe you can find something that will work for you on the road.

Yeah Tom I’ve got some ideas on a chinning bar too but I think it’s going to involve a little structure built inside the sleeper to accomplish! Thanks for the ideas on stretch bands too!

Thanks for the advice jimmiepop! I’ll check into the kettle ball programs etc. The weight training exercise rooms in truckstops has been tried to some degree but has met with little success. If successful it seems it’s from The locals Participation. Something like Koko fit Might work better? Man those barstar dudes are machines!

@60 Heard, brother. Yep. Barstars and Bodyweight training are legit. Kettlebells too. Pavel Tsatouline (sp?) is one of the leading Bodyweight /kettlebell trainers. There's a Navy Seal dude who's pretty good too, but who's name escapes me. If you want the books, shoot me a PM and I'll either email or Dropbox them for you.
