"Trigger Alert

After my post yesterday I thought I’d follow up with some science.

And some perspective.

If you read the comments on my post from yesterday.

You will see just how religious people become about their dietary choices.

One of the main reasons for this is that we are emotional beings.

Nothing that science can say will make someone dismiss their OWN EXPERIENCE.

If you were sick, & you changed something bout your diet, & you got better.

You don’t care what science says.

[Until you get sick again… if you’re unfortunate enough for that to happen.]

If I had managed to include Keto in the post yesterday, you’d have seen THREE religions battling it out.

The thing is, for those of us who understand PRINCIPLES we can see why they ‘believe’ what they do.

Let's put the ethical considerations aside because that isn’t something that science can really give us the ‘facts’ on.

If you haven’t ever watched the horrific videos of the mistreatment of animals I would encourage you to, at least once in your life.

Fortunately (for me at least) the farming practices in the UK are is VERY different from what you see in other countries.

But when it comes to HEALTH, FAT LOSS & PERFORMANCE, we have the science to guide us.

We know that removing things like meat, dairy & eggs completely has very minimal effects on cardiometabolic disease risk factors.

But often, when people go vegan they improve their previously poor diet.

Likewise, we see people go ‘carnivore’ & claim that has hugely improved their health or symptoms.

A ‘meat only’ diet is essentially a therapeutic fast.

It is an ‘idiots guide’ to an elimination diet (I mean that in the politest of ways).

Often people with IBS symptoms feel a lot better (in the short term).

Likewise, both of these ways of eating tends to reduce calorie intake.

In the short term, this improves health markers & sometimes feelings of wellbeing.

A meat-only diet really isn’t a good way to go LONG term. It’s almost certainly unhealthy.

With enough planning, a vegan diet CAN be complete & healthy.

Neither is superior to a more balanced approach.

Both are likely inferior longterm for most people, but everyone gets to choose their own path.

There haven’t really been any studies on the carnivore diet per se…

As its just kinda silly idea all-around.

On the flip side, we do have studies on vegan or vegan type diets.

For any of you geeks out there, have a read of the recent paper published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

"A short-term religious “fast” from animal products have a minimal impact on cardiometabolic health biomarkers irrespective of concurrent shifts in distinct plant-based food groups”

What’s amazing is how the zealots fight their corner with such fervour.

Not realizing that the zealots on the other end of the spectrum have all the same ‘stories’ (fairy tales? Lol) about how THEIR diet is ‘optimal’.

While the rest of us sit in the middle, baffled at the power of personal bias.

“The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it.”

I can really relate with this line: "Nothing that science can say will make someone dismiss their OWN EXPERIENCE." --I've seen it on here pretty often. The bias is so strong with some people.

We're all different until we participate in a metabolic ward study. We have slow metabolisms until we are placed in a hyperbolic chamber and studied. CICO doesn't work until it's proven that you're underreporting intake, etc. A good example of us all being pretty much the same is when all of the extras in the movie 300 on the same diet and workout regime. They all ended up ripped with abs. You didn't have a quarter of them that needed keto, another quarter that needed a carnivore diet, and another quarter that needed to go vegan. It came down to CICO and resistance training.

LOL! Science can be so irritating sometimes! 😁😁😁

Love this!

Idk what is irritating about science. What would be truly irritating is needing to stick to a certain rigid plan because of your blood type, lol! CICO is as flexible as you want it to be. Freedom. I see people struggling because they think they need a certain diet yet have yo-yo'd since 2012 because it just isn't sustainable.

Spot on and Chris I love the music reference.

Calorie deficit, how you want to get it is personal. Some are healthier and more sustainable, and others are not healthy nor sustainable. I looked at the members who have obtained their goals and maintained and learned from them. No matter how you what you say, words can be misunderstood if the reader has a bias against you. Keep posting. Your information on metabolic ward studies helped me.

Denying science is denying the world God created. Science is an explanation of our environment. We still have so much to learn!

CICO is a component of all diets to control weight. I can't think of one argument to the contrary. It's fact and backed by science...

Without cico fat loss is not possible. Without a lifestyle change maintenance of weight loss is not possible

At least, here, most people are sincere. On Facebook, it’s mostly “I don’t have to worry about CICO because of this magic powder I take and—lucky for you—I’m a MLM distributor for it!” 💸

Being sincere and not rolling with the misinformation gets you the title of bully around here.

emotional beings, certainly... I’d say that we have some mental equipment for sorting things into clean & unclean. great for not spreading contaminants in ancient times, but leads to a lot of halo effect / feel-good dieting. and there’s def. some overlap with religion, w/r/t sacred vs. profane, and people forming in-groups & out-groups.

and crying bully is a good silencing tactic when you’re out of facts...

I'd be interested in your take on what science says about a plant based diet vs one with meat on the sustainability of being able to feed a growing population.

I'd say it would be VERY expensive if you forgo GMO's like you seem to do. With GMO's, I would think it would work. You may need to supplement certain vitamins and overall plant protein is inferior to dairy and meat, but it could work a lot better than a carnivore diet.

Nice dodge hahaha. GMO are something we should all avoid, my food budget has dropped considerably infact mate. And that is buying organic produce. But my original question was how sustainable is a meat based diet vs a plant based diet for your grandchildren. You claim to like the science, how much damage is a diet that includes meat doing to future generations vs a plant based diet. Also look at Zack Belknap,Nimai Delgado, jehina Malik,Karl bruder,Ivan blazquez.... And hundreds more, they would disagree about the quality of plant proteins

Not having a crack before ya groupies get all but sore hahahaha. Just asking if you think that with a growing population eating meat is actually a great idea?
30 Okt 19 oleh anggota: keith george cooke
Population will hit 9.7 billion by 2050 at current rate of growth... Planet cannot support that many people on a diet that includes meat
30 Okt 19 oleh anggota: keith george cooke
Couldn't care less about this argument, most of my food does not come from meat so go post on a carnivores journal. GMO's are great and needed, you'll never convince me otherwise. Unless there is meat in Quest bars, protein powder, greek yogurt, and fruit, my diet is 95% non-meat.
