I'm feeling a little queasy this morning so just had dried toast and tea. I think I need to throw out everything that was in the freezer during the power outage. Yesterday I had meatless chili that was left over and I had frozen. Never even thought about throwing it out. Also have been eating string cheese that was in the fridge while the power was out. Don't know if any of that is what is causing my upset stomach, but I guess I need to just toss everything out.

Melissa - I think I was worrying too much. I felt fine once I was up and around. I couldn't sleep last night and had a hot cup of tea around 1am. Sometimes tea on an empty stomach does set so well with me. I met a neighbor out walking this morning and she said she didn't throw anything out. Nothing was thawed and the cheese in the fridge was fine (I threw out my string cheese) and she had cooked some of the meat. Another friend said the same thing, there was still ice in the freezer and the food is good. So I thawed a pound of ground beef and it smelled okay (ground beef never smells good to me) so I am cooking a meatloaf. If I don't feel good after a slice of meatloaf, well I'll throw it out and there really isn't anything else to worry about. I had already tossed mayonnaise and other condiments, salad dressing and stuff in the door of the fridge. Did I ever say I worry a lot? For some reason it's what I do.

Well, I'm glad you are feeling alright. Last thing you need is food poisoning! 😁 We had our fridge go out this summer, and it took nearly week to sort out a replacement. We had two large coolers to use, but we did end up pitching some stuff. We get so accustomed to the conveniences in life!

Fritzy- I am in eastern nc and know the challenges of power outages for days and weeks from hurricanes. I may have more time to prepare but some of the things I do are I have some of those styrofoam coolers that I pack my fridge items in with lots of ice and keep them in the fridge. The freezer I start freezing rubbermaid containers and bottles of ice as soon as the word is out of bad weather. I now keep many in there all the time to eliminate prepping everytime. Pack it as full as you can. I also pack two days of fresh food in a small cooler and keep in the fridge. Right before the power goes out I put it on the counter. Do not open your fridge or freezer. Arrange food items in your fridge and freezer in grocery bags of a day or two of meals and when you run out of food from the cooler on your counter snatch one out quickly. Turn the settings up to the highest it will go as soon as you know the power may go down. Mine is set on highest cooling two days in advance. The items in your freezer will go maybe 4 days frozen.....when they start to thaw through them on the grill or if the power is back up back in the freezer. Thanks for the tips Crazycatchick! I did freeze partially filled gallon water bottles and kept them next to the milk and had been freezing bags of ice from the ice maker since we had a couple days warnings. Hopefully we won't have lengthy outages, but it sounds like they may become regular things during wildfire season. Mrsroboto - I'm feeling fine. I think it was the hot tea in the middle of the night on an empty stomach. Tea does that to me at times.
