Chris, for me mutigrain cheerios (+/- 50 gm) and fibre 1 bars (140 cals) give a nice boost of glycogen energy but have a bit more lasting affect than straight chocolate or gels. Most of my work outs are fasted, but anything over 1.5 hours re-fuel is a must or power drops significantly.
